I miss Corvallis. I miss 1st street & shoetini’s. I miss the farmer’s market & Zia’s flour tortillas, hecho de mano. I miss biking 26th & running the Circle extension trail. I miss pumpkin chocolate chip muffins at New Morning. I miss Weatherford & Crazy Carol. I miss pesto on my pizza at American Dream. I miss football game days & wearing orange & tailgating. I miss Java Stop (Katie, I’m so jealous you work there now!) & sitting with my cup & my favorite people, on the MU balcony.
But most of all, I miss the canopy of orange, yellow, rust, gold that is covering all of my favorite Corvallis places in the fall. So it made me happy to get a Corvallis-fix last week: the picture window next to my desk framed the Beaver-orange leaves falling from the tree outside. The picture of fall reminded me of my Corvallis-friend, Marilyn, telling me how glad she was that her husband, who formally worked out-of-town, was going to be home this fall. “Because,” Marilyn said, “fall is the season of lovers.”
& I think Marilyn’s right. So, when Gayle asked me to capture a few moments between her & her lover, I knew they needed to take an Autumn walk under the tree outside my window, because walks around Pilot Rock are something Gayle & Kenny have shared during their marriage. I adore this fotoNovella because I know Gayle will see the Kenny she married 55 years ago in their fotoNovella: on an Autumn walk in the leaves.
