Epilogue: 25 cent ring(s)

Before I can write any other posts, I feel I have to finish off Katie & Kyle’s 25 cent ring story with a picture. But before that I have to share just a little story that shows what kind of a man Kyle is, & how lucky Katie is to being wearing his 25 cent ring I had mentioned using the 25 cent rings in Katie & Kyle’s ‘real’ ring shots on their wedding day. Well, when I went to get the ring shot, Kyle told me there wer a bunch of rings on the counter. & there were a BUNCH!

Kyle had gone back to Pizza Hut and had spent an ‘undisclosed’ amount of money, trying to buy a 25 cent ring that was just exactly like the one he had proposed to Katie with in Hawaii. So Kyle was a little disappointed he didn’t come away with the look-alike ring, but I certainly wasn’t empty handed thanks to his persistence. In fact, both my pockets were bulging with plastic bubble containers with bright pop-tops…all protecting a very precious 25 cent jewel. They were perfect for this ring shot: so thank you, Kyle!

& I might have rocked the pink stone for good luck during the ceremony…on my right hand, of course!

weddingNovella: Becky and Carl

We are introduced through friends or we have been good friends for along time or we went to high school together. However the introduction, we hit it off & in the name of photography, we meet for coffee or dinner and we catch-up on life. We chat and laugh and I fall a little more in love. We set a date. It’s on that date where we visit a local winery, go 4-wheeling, take a walk in the country, or hang-out downtown. I’m introduced to new hobbies, new places. I fall a little more in love.

And then it’s the wedding day & it’s the ultimate date: meet-the-parents, first dance, all rolled into one day…oh, and I get to have my cake & eat it too! & I fall a little more in love. For me, shooting weddings is a total love affair. I fall a little more in love with each bride & groom who invite me to their wedding to capture their love story.

It was the same with Becky & Carl. Their wedding day was like the ultimate date for me to get to know them. I hung-out with Becky & her girls at the salon. I got to laugh along with Becky’s mom all morning & now I totally understand from whom Becky gets her energy & witty tongue. I watched the adorable bond that Becky has with Carl’s little sister. Becky scheduled her next trip back to the salon, this one will be to give her hair to Locks of Love. It was easy to see what Carl has to love in Becky.

At the church Carl had roses & a letter waiting for Becky. It had the most important message of the day: I love you. He was all anticipation up to the ceremony, all smiles during the ceremony & all full of care and consideration for Becky the rest of the day. Carl held her veil for her in the crazy wind, picked-up her long dress when she was walking, held her close when he had the chance, made her giggle most of the day & well, had his eyes and concern on the only girl that mattered the whole day. It was easy to see what Becky has to love in Carl.

Thank you Becky & Carl for the ultimate date! Can’t wait for our next when you’ll get to see your entire wedding story!

Last, I just had to share this one! There is just something I love about the near anonymity of the act.

Hermiston Bridal Show

I’m loving weddings & Brides & Grooms, these days. I had a booth at the Hermiston Bridal Show on March 6th & it was great to see all of my Hermiston fotoNovella Brides out browsing for ideas and vendors and also to meet and chat with other local brides.

You’ll see quite a few product samples in this image of my vintage-chic booth. I’ll be featuring different products over the next few weeks here on the blog! Hello, I have amazing friends! I have to specially point out the lovely pyramid of treats on the table behind me. Rechelle decided she wanted to do some baking while her husband was out-of-town to keep her busy and offered to make treats for me, out of the blue! I was so extremely grateful—then I get to her house & she pulls this beautiful cake tray out piled high with TRUFFLES! Hand-rolled & hand-dipped almond joy truffles! They were a HIT! Thank you, Rechelle! I also was lucky enough to have the help of Eric & Kim working the booth the day of the show & my mom and the wonderful women who work with her at Westwinds Nursery put together beautiful flower baskets to accent the booth. weddingNovella: Holly & Bryce

There’s something about a man in uniform–and Holly thought so too! Holly married her Marine at Terra Blanca Winery. She was waiting just behind the patio walls to surprise Bryce for a ‘first look.’ Holly set-up Bryce well for the surprise by telling him he absolutely wasn’t allowed to see her in her dress before the ceremony. Like a good Marine, Bryce follows orders well; he came around the corner & quickly turned his head away. His eyes huge– “I didn’t see anything! Just a flash of white!”

Needless to say, Bryce was relieved when Holly let him know she had planned the surprise. I love that because Holly decided to surprise Bryce with a first look, they got to spend the rest of the afternoon together: taking a walk under the wine arbor, hanging-out on the terrace & rocking-out in the wine caves! I loved Holly & Bryce’s day, because, hey…there’s something about a man in uniform with his bride!

weddingNovella: Clint & Renee

Clint & Renee’s relationship has brought two families together. Their families are special in that they blend perfectly. They love hanging out. They laugh easily with each other. They are relaxed & down with hanging-out together on the beach, in the pool or hot-tubbing it into the evening. They are chill with party’n it up–together. & they welcomed Eric & I to be apart of their family vacation.

This family vacation was all about Clint & Renee and their marriage in Hawaii on Waimanalo Beach on Oahu. Clint & Renee walked a rose petal strewn path in the sand between rows of their family and were married with a backdrop of Blue Hawaii water with palm trees in the foreground. Are you picturing the amazing-ness, yet?!

I love destination weddings. I know, I know! You’re going to tell me I’m being cliche. I mean, who wouldn’t love getting to travel to Hawaii & shoot a wedding with sand between your toes & waves hitting you? But it’s not about that; it’s about the chance a destination wedding gives you to intimately know the wedding guests. Hanging-out long enough that…yes, I feel a little like family now

In kindergarden, I met the girl with the huge head of beautiful jet-black curls. That day, she taught me how to jump rope. In fifth-grade Mrs. Nieman required art borders around every essay. That year, she shared drawing ideas with me. After that, it was battle-of-the-books, senior winter formal, & mexican food once a term in college. So as I started branding fotoNovella, we met at La Palma. That night, my logo began to take shape over ceviche tostadas.

One of the things I’ve been appreciating recently are the friends whom fotoNovella is bringing back into my life. Brooke is one of those friends. We’ve had the chance to catch-up on our friendship at each coffee meet-up, as she channeled all my vintage chic energy into my fotoNovella logo. Brooke, thank you for my literature-inspired logo; I love it. After coffee, talking business, tracing a few dozen versions of the fotoNovella logo…our meetings would turn to Brooke’s wedding details. A fitting palette of fall colors, a seriously lovely dress, a perfectly Eastern Oregon venue, and red potatoes …the day was to be fabulous! & it was! I was lucky enough to capture Brooke’s bridalNovella in Pendleton last weekend. This time, I shared my art with Brooke.

Venue: Slickfork Saloon, Hamley’s. Pendleton, Oregon

Eric Schultheiss, www.essenceapc.com, accompanied me as second shooter for the day. This was our fifth wedding we’ve shot together, so we’re a pretty good team: double the angles, double the vision, double the sarcasm. Eric spent his day in Pendelton carrying my bags around like a pack mule (this is me being sarcastic) and being mistaken for Keith Urban (this is me wishing I was being sarcastic). When he wasn’t otherwise engaged, he was rocking-out cool shots like these:
